Jake Owen Nearly Lost His Fingers in That Go-Kart Crash
Turns out Jake Owen nearly lost some fingers in the go-kart crash that landed him in the ER earlier this month (July 7).
Jake tells cmt.com that the crash crushed his fingers and the bones.
“The doctor said it was like taking a cinderblock and dropping it on your hand,” he said. “So he had to suture the bones back up to even make it a bone and then put a screw in there to keep it together.”
The accident happened on a race track in North Carolina where he was racing at about 40 miles an hour with his buddies.
Jake said he was in a full racing suit and helmet when he spun and flipped his go-kart coming out of a corner.
“I was like, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine.’ But then I was like, ‘God, my hand hurts.’ Then I looked at my hand and the glove was just disintegrated. After seeing that, I was in shock,” he said.

“All I thought was, ‘Am I gonna be OK for my wife and my little girl?’ I don’t care about my hand. I don’t. Nobody has come up to me and been like, ‘Hey, man. Sorry to hear about your hand. I bet it sucks that you can’t hold your baby right now.’ Everyone’s more like, ‘I bet that sucks you can’t play guitar,’” he said.
“I can’t even hold Pearl right now. That’s the worst part about it. I could care less about guitar.”
Jake, who says he is in lots of pain, adds that he really won’t know for another couple of months what kind of permanent damage he may have done to those fingers.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to bend my fingers the same,” he said. “There are so many things I wanna do—hold Pearl, golf, play guitar . . . but mostly, I just want to hold Pearl.”
